We provide a hunting
experience in a unique West Texas location. The 6000 acre ranch in
Crockett County has had no livestock the past five years so food and
cover for our wildlife is abundant, resulting in large numbers of
whitetails, mule deer, turkey and quail.
We offer three day
hunts with all meals, ranch transportation and game cleaning/packing
provided.
The property has two wet weather creeks,
five distinct ecological types and over 300 feet of topographic relief.
The view from our main lodge is endless. Our canyon views from each
cabin provide intimate looks at our abundant wildlife such as javelina,
fox, bobcat, deer and dozens of bird and plant species including the
delicate and threatened twistflower, the ranch's namesake.
Our location is one of the few in Texas
where both mule deer and whitetail deer can be hunted. Our hunters
regularly take 10 point, 18 inch spread bucks. We also have two species
of wild quail, bobwhite and blue quail. You have not hunted wild quail
until you have hunted West Texas blue quail. Our guides have themselves
hunted the property for many years and know the locations of more than
fifty coveys.The fact that
we have no livestock on the property allows us to sustain greater
numbers of game species. Our two wet weather creeks provide abundant
roosting areas for turkey, resulting in hundreds on the ranch, making
spring hunting exciting.
We are currently
taking reservations for three day hunts beginning on the following days
in 2005 and 2006. All game is wild, no cage raised fowl.
Come relax with us.
If you have no interest in
hunting, Twistflower also offers three day “packages” that include the
same meals and accommodations described above.
Star
gaze into a night sky like you have never seen before (no urban lights
within 20 miles of the ranch). Hike, ride bikes, swim, see our
wildflowers (over 100 different species), expand your bird list (dozens
of species present), observe wildlife (bobcats, fox, deer, quail,
turkey, javelina), and participate in our archaeological site tours
(Native American sites dating back thousands of years). Any days other
than those stated above for hunting are available for
$500/person for a three day visit.
Our master naturalist
conducts tours of Native American sites including rock shelters with
grain grinding mortars and rock oven midden, as well as Indian mounds
where Native Americans prepared roots, grains and meats, camped and
monitored buffalo movements thousands of years ago.
All meals are
served in our 2400 square foot central lodge that has two fireplaces,
big screen TV, and game tables to provide entertainment during the
evenings and other non-hunting times. You will sleep in individual
cabins that each have a fireplace, whirlpool tub, separate shower, front
porch with canyon overlook views, and over 600 square feet, including a
gun closet. The cabins can accommodate one or two hunters depending on
the total number of hunters present during a particular three day hunt.
Our cabins, built from native stone taken from the ranch, provide
luxurious accomodations.
If you arrive by noon on the first day, lunch is provided. Dinner is
provided the evening of the first night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are
provided the second day, and breakfast and lunch are provided the third
day prior to your departure.
